NTHS Service Hours 2021-22

ALL NTHS SERVICE HOURS SHEETS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN MONDAY, MAY 16, 2022

Service Hour Requirements and Directions:

​

GHHS NTHS members must complete 10 in-club service hours during the school year 2021-22 by participating in NTHS sponsored activities posted on the NTHS Events webpage. 

 

In addition, GHHS NTHS members must also complete 5 out-of-club service hours in 2021-22. These can be hours completed for other clubs and organizations. Proof of completion must be provided for the 5 out-of-club hours as well on the Service Hour Form.

 

As you self-report these hours, please keep in mind that this is a character-based organization. If it is determined that a member has submitted a falsified hours sheet or otherwise attempted to mislead the officers in any way, they will be removed from the organization.

Doyenne Inspiration Set-up and Teardown

Set-or or tear down a local robotics competition!

Doyenne Inspiration is holding its annual robotics competitions at Davis Drive Middle School for high school girls. For the event, we need a lot of volunteers to set up and tear down the field and prepare for the competition.

They will need assistance setting up Friday, Oct 22nd 4pm-12am and tearing it down Saturday, Oct 23rd from 6pm-10pm (may run later). YOU DO NOT NEED TO STAY THE WHOLE TIME, but you are encouraged to stay as long as possbile since the setup will go much quicker if we have less transition. Students are needed starting at 4pm till the floor tiles are done, adults are primarily needed after 6pm. Please specify time in the comments of the SignUpGenius. Students do not need to be vaccinated to volunteer. More information is on the SignUpGenius linked below.

 

On your hours sheet, be sure to log the date and times that you clock in and out. You may round to the nearest 15 minutes. As proof of completion, please attach a screenshot of your SignUpGenius confirmation and a picture of you at the event.

Senior Class Trunk-or-Treat

Set-or or tear down a local robotics competition!

**SENIORS ONLY**

On Saturday, Oct. 30, the GHHS PTSA will be hosting a Senior Class Trunk-or-Treat event at GHHS in the parking lot. More details can be found on the SignUpGenius linked below. If you are unable to participate in the event, you can still make a donation for a 1 service hour.

The time of the event is approximately 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, 10/30 with the kids filing in about 2:30 p.m. Thank you in advance for your time and donations!

1 total service hour will be awarded for donating candy. You will not be awarded more service hours for donating more candy. 2 service hours will be awarded for participating in the event. As proof of completion, please attach pictures of your SignUpGenius confirmation and you dropping off your donations / at the event.

Operation Senior Smiles

Create a card for an older adult or adult with a disability in Wake County!

Bring a smile to the face of an older adult or adult with a disability in Wake County by creating a handmade card with a drawing, a positive message, a poem . . . really anything happy!  Please check the linked document for instructions on where to send the cards and make sure to include an extra stamp or two in the envelope to help cover mailing costs.

You can earn 1 hour per card you make, up to a maximum of 2.  Only high-quality cards that clearly show effort was put into making them will count for hours!

Please attach a picture of your completed card, as well as photo evidence of you mailing it, to your hours sheet to receive credit!

Instructions

Project Linus No Sew Fleece Blanket

Provide homemade blankets to children in need!

Please see the attached instructions sheet for making a fleece blanket and follow it (with the exception of the width of the fringe). Important points in making one of these blankets:

  • The blanket fringe should be cut in 1" to 1.5" in segments - 1/2 inch is too small

  • All blankets should be single layer - see instruction sheet

  • All blankets must be washed and come from a smoke and fragrance-free home.

 

You can earn 1 in club service hours for completing one blanket and up to 3 service hours for completing three blankets.

 

NTHS members MUST bring their completed blankets to the blanket drop at JOANN Fabric and Craft (2420 Walnut St Cary, NC). Do not bring them to GHHS.

Please attach photo evidence of you with each blanket on your hour sheet to receive credit if you do this!

Advocacy In Action: ComMotion - Community in Motion

March 24,

4 pm

Are you interested in a volunteer experience that promotes health and happiness through dance and movement? Join us on Wednesday, March 24th as the leaders from "ComMotion-Community in Motion", explain how they serve Veterans, Cancer Survivors, seniors, kids, and people with a wide range of physical and cognitive abilities through the art of movement. There will also be an opportunity for YOU to sign up to volunteer your time and assist them with their mission.  Register today to secure your spot!

Doyenne Inspiration Speaker Series

Doyenne Inspiration is an organization dedicated to empowering young women by allowing them to get exposure to all aspects of STEM.  They strive to create a family of young women supporting other young women, help them become better leaders, and encourage them to seek future careers in STEM fields.

Doyenne will be holding a speaker series on March 20th from 6:30-7:30 pm with Rebecca Kekelishvili from NetApp. At this event, Rebecca will be talking about NetApp's connection with STEM, and how students can get involved in the many programs the company offers. During the meet, attendees will get to ask questions and interact with the speaker through polls and breakout sessions. All are welcome! (Even though they focus on women empowerment, gents are encouraged to join as well!)

GH PPE Drive

March 1-5

Green Hope and Panther Creek are holding a PPE drive to benefit Dorcas Ministries!  Acceptable items are: Disinfectants, Hand Sanitizer, Hand Wipes, Reusable Face Masks, Unopened Disposable Face Masks, and Packages of Latex Gloves.  All items are to be dropped off in the bins outside the front and carpool entrances of the school.

NTHS members will receive 1 in-club service hour for every 3 items they donate, with a maximum of up to 3 hours.

Share the Love: Support NC Healthcare Workers

Create a video, card, or poster to show support for health care workers!

February – the month when we celebrate love – is the perfect time to remind our local health care and EMS workers how much we appreciate them! Take a picture or video, make a poster or Valentine’s Day card or even send us a song – the more creative, the better! Any small gesture of love will go a long way to let our frontline health care workers know we are supporting them.You can earn 1 hour per card/video/poster you make, up to a maximum of 2.  Only high-quality work that clearly show effort was put into making them will count for hours! GHHS PTSA Document Scanning

Help out whenever you have spare time!

Help the GHHS PTSA scan documents for their archives!  Volunteers must have access to a scanner!

This event is done at home whenever you have free time!  (Put that time away from school work to good use!)

Holiday Cards For Our Service Members Drive

December, 2020

Join NC Superintendent of Public Instruction Mark Johnson in thanking our servicemen and servicewomen who are away from home this holiday season.

Specific instructions can be found at the attached link.  You should respond to at least 3-5 of the suggested prompts in your letter.  Be personal, but please avoid prompts talking too much about yourself, such as "This year, I wish for a...".  Focus instead on thanking the service member for everything they do!

You can earn 1 hour for making a card (maximum of 1).  Only high-quality cards that clearly show effort was put into making them will count for hours!

Please attach a close-up picture of your completed card, as well as photo evidence of you mailing it, to your hours sheet to receive credit!

Green Hope for the Holidays - Toy Drive

Nov 16 - Dec 15

The Green Hope Black Falcons Cybersecurity team is holding a Green Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive to benefit Toys for Tots!  Toys can be dropped off from November 16th to December 15th at the donation basket in front of Green Hope.  Gifts should be newly-bought, UNWRAPPED, and cost about $5-$7.

NTHS members will receive 1 in-club service hour for each gift they donate, with a maximum of up to 3 hours.

​Green Hope Gives Back - Food Drive

The Green Hope High School PTSA is proud to invite ALL our amazing GH students, families and the entire community to join us in a food drive to support Dorcas Ministries Food Bank!

We need YOU!  Want to know how to get involved?

·  Start collecting food

·  Spread the word!

·  Offer to pick up food from your neighbors and deliver it to a donation location on November 8th

Dorcas Ministries provides many services and support to those in need in our community.  This is our opportunity as a community to give back and support the Dorcas Food Bank!

​
